The Universität Tübingen was found over 500 years ago in 1477 by Eberhard im Bart, Count and later Duke of Württemberg. Since its founding the University has helped to foster and shape the country's life and development through its internationally recognised research and teaching.

The University is located in the "student town" of Tübingen which has 85 000 inhabitants. Tübingen is situated approximately 40 kilometres south of Stuttgart at the start of the Swabian Alps.
