Application
Who belongs to the visiting program students?
These are those students who participate in an exchange program (e.g. the ERASMUS scheme or a bilateral agreement with one of our partner universities overseas) and who study for one or two semesters at the Universität Stuttgart.
Academic prerequisites and application procedure
Before we can process your application you need to be nominated for an exchange at the University of Stuttgart by your home university.
Academic performance
In order to participate in our exchange programs, visiting students must have grades of C or above.
Proficiency in German
Virtually all courses at the Universität Stuttgart except the international Master's degree programs are held in German. For this reason, you must demonstrate your proficiency in German. You will be expected to prove that you have had at least 900 hours of German (C 1 according to the European reference frame). Visiting students who cannot prove this are required to participate in the intensive German course and submit a proof of a minimum of 200 hours of coursework in German (A 1 according to the European reference frame).
Application documents
After you have been nominated you can apply online at: https://uni-stuttgart.moveonnet.eu/moveonline/incoming/welcome.php The online application must be printed out and signed. The following documents must be enclosed to your application:
- transcripts of records
- proof of your German proficiency (see above)
- 2 passport-sized photos
- learning agreement

Deadlines

Overseas students; Submission of the original, signed application with the necessary documents if you wish to begin your studies in Stuttgart in the following winter semester which begins in September/October. ERASMUS students; Submission of the original, signed application with the necessary documents if you wish to begin your studies in Stuttgart in the following winter semester which begins in September/October. - December 1
All program students: Submission of the original, signed application with the necessary documents if you wish to begin your studies in Stuttgart in the following summer semester which begins in March/April.
Zulassungsbescheid (Letter of admission)
By mid-July (applications for the winter semester) or in late January (applications for the summer semester) you will receive a letter of admission Zulassungsbescheid as well as a transfer form for the payment of the Student Services fee Studentenwerksbeitrag of EUR 76.85. This fee has to be paid by all students and is charged each semester. It is a general fee towards the cost of running the cafeterias and dormitories, including a contribution to the semester ticket for public transport and offers a number of other consulting services for students free of charge. Do not pay this fee, Studentenwerksbeitrag, until you have arrived in Stuttgart. If you have applied for student housing you will receive detailed housing information approx. six weeks before your arrival.

Registration
You must register in person upon arrival in Stuttgart. The necessary steps for registration are explained in the Welcome Guide which you will receive on arrival at the Office of International Affairs. Please do not forget to bring your letter of admission Zulassungsbescheid which is required for the registration.
