University of Stuttgart


The University of Stuttgart has just celebrated its 175th anniversary. It is a comprehensive university with some 18,500 students, more than 25% of these are international students. It offers courses in almost all disciplines. In 1900, it was awarded the right to confer doctorates in engineering and this has remained a major area of strength. In 1967, the institution was given the name it still holds today: Universität Stuttgart.

The University of Stuttgart hosts 140 institutes in 10 departments including architecture, biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, computer science, history, languages, philosophy, social sciences as well as all the fields of engineering. It has repeatedly been ranked among the top technical universities in Germany.
