Become engaged as a mentor

Would you like to support an international student on a one-on-one basis during their first semester in Stuttgart? Are you interested in socializing with students from other countries and cultures? Become an intercultural mentor!

Sie begleiten eine*n internationale*n Studierende*n während des ersten Semesters des Bachelor- oder Masterstudiums und unterstützen ihn oder sie bei:

  • Studienorganisation
  • Orientierung auf dem Campus
  • Kennenlernen von Stuttgart
  • Deutsch üben und deutsche Kultur verstehen

… local students in at least their third semester...

  • who have time to meet their mentee 2-3 times a month over the course of one semester
  • with German as their first language or with very good German skills (C1)
  • who would like to get to know other cultures
  • who are interested in doing voluntary work
  • a one-on-one mentoring tandem with an international student
  • thorough preparation of mentors and mentees
  • support during the semester to ensure a functioning mentoring relationship
  • interesting workshops and courses taught by students for students
  • a recreational program with roundtables, excursions and online activities
  • plus points when applying for a study abroad program
  • a certificate of attendance, recognized as part of the certificate for intercultural competence and internationality (website only available in German)
  • If desired: recognition of the mentoring activity as an interdisciplinary key qualification (SQ, 3 ECTS, extra conditions)
  • if desired: recognition of the mentoring activity as part of the Certificate Gender and Diversity (Module C: Practice, extra conditions)

I think the mentoring program is great, and I hope that it will continue to be offered. Students benefit from it in many ways: language-wise, culturally, personally, and skill-wise…I also find it is important given the current refugee situation to reach out to strangers in order to help them. The mentoring program can do a lot in this regard.
